A mobility concept for the future – Mobility hubs for Schönefeld Nord

Schönefeld Nord is being planned with a strong focus on modern and sustainable urban development. A key aspect of this vision is eco-friendly and efficient mobility, centered around the concept of Mobility Hubs. These hubs serve as central points where different modes of transport—cars, bicycles, public transport, and car-sharing services—are seamlessly integrated. They are designed to enable residents to easily switch between transportation options while also serving as social gathering spaces with additional amenities such as cafés, co-working spaces, and bicycle repair stations.

Approach

A comprehensive plan is being developed for the Mobility Hubs in Schönefeld Nord, focusing on the integration of various transportation modes and sustainable mobility solutions. The first step involves analyzing all relevant studies and findings to establish a solid foundation.

The concept aligns with the construction phases of the new district, examining factors such as parking demand and future transportation needs. The strategic placement of the hubs ensures easy accessibility and high usage, seamlessly integrating them into the existing and planned transport infrastructure while promoting a low-car, sustainable neighborhood.

Each hub will be tailored to the specific needs of its location, offering a combination of parking spaces for cars and bicycles, charging stations for electric vehicles, and car-sharing and e-scooter stations. Additionally, the hubs will feature sustainable elements such as solar panels and green roofs. Their flexible design allows for adaptation and expansion as needed.

Various operational models—including public, private, and public-private partnerships—are being evaluated to ensure an economically viable and sustainable management system for the hubs.

Mobility of the Future

The Mobility Hubs concept is a key pillar in the future-oriented development of Schönefeld Nord. It enables a flexible, environmentally friendly, and well-connected transportation system that meets the needs of residents while protecting the environment. With this approach, Schönefeld Nord could become a model for other urban developments, demonstrating how sustainable and community-focused city planning can shape the cities of tomorrow.
